Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Hi in admin.class.php file

add this to the top

//DC Fix for servers that dont have a session save path set ...
$session_path = ini_get("session.save_path");
if(!is_writable($session_path)){
$mypath = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'];
$mypath = str_replace(".","",$mypath);
session_save_path ("$mypath/tmp/");
}

right after <?

and make sure you create a tmp dir
with permissions set to 777

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

It should be creating session files there? is your tmp folder CHMOD to 777 this is required so the server can write to that dir.

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Strange you may need to ask your host how to get the sessions to work correctly on your server then as what i told you should have worked. you dont need all folders to 777 just that one and any SGAL may need but the fact ots not working at ll is odd...

who is your host I have seen this on a few server one that comes to mind the GATE but my fix works on there server no prob. So iI would ask your host.

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Yes best bet as it may not run correctly depending on how the server is set up do you get any safe mode errors ...

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

yes. php safe mode is on. but i don't think they'll change this for me. it's a uni server that have 100s of other sites on it!!

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Well thats a big problem as it will not usually run correctly in safe mode so you will have to try the hack thats built in to SGAL ...

Thats why I asked as it sounded to me that your server could be in safe mode.

so try the following for some info.
http://www.sgal.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3200
http://www.sgal.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1840

If it does not work and they can't or will not help you then best bet you need a use dif server.

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Nope sorry if SGAL does not work correctly with all that I told you to try, then you will need to run it on another server as SGAL runs fine on most servers but safe mode used by some is a no-no and it will most likely not run correctly or at all ...

Just so you know a lot of scripts will not run under safe mode so with that in mind you will be unable to run a lot of dif scripts so best bet get yourself a new server and host.

The hack was your last resort if all fails you will need to get a new server as that problem is server related not a problem related to SGAL.

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Hello,

I have the same problem. I inserted the line in my admin.class.php, created a tmp folder and set its rights to 777. But I still get the error message.

My webspace is provided by Strato, one of the major german webhosts. I don't see problems from this side. Also, I'm not in a public network.

Any ideas?

Greetings
Kamon

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

What is the err msg?
Is it realated to safe mode?

Many times its hard to get this to work correctly if the host has safe mode on. I will not even use a host that enables safe mode, as it causes nothing but problems, and theres a lot better ways to secure a server then safe mode.

If all of the above fails its best to ask the host as they may have a way to get it working for you.
