install problem - save path does not exist

"(session.save_path). Singapore will function but you may not be able to use the admin interface."

I know this is a common problem but I haven't been able to solve it, so any help appreciated.

After install, I did a search on this forum and found this thread:

http://www.sgal.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1882

Some hosts do not set the session path
one off the bat I know of is hostsave aka the gate to get around this you might try this code I wrote place at the top of the script

You must mod the scripts that have session_start in them
This can be done by using my mod code block just before session_start().

//DC Auto path mod...
$mypath = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'];
$mypath = str_replace(".","",$mypath);
session_save_path ("$mypath/tmp/");

This assumes you made a dir called tmp in your main dir
Make sure that this dir is server writable.

I tried this fix on admin.class.php and admin.php, the only places I could find "session_start", but still have the same problem - that is, I can't get past the admin login. It accepts the original admin login and password but when I try and change the password, or click on any links in the admin area, it returns the login screen again, over and over.

Is there any way I can fix this problem?

IF NO FIX, can I set up a gallery without using the admin area??? If so how?

My install test results pasted below:

Step 1 of 2: Test Server

Attempting to find out if your server is capable of running singapore.
No changes are made at this time.
Testing PHP version

PHP version is 4.3.9.
Testing PHP configuration

Safe mode disabled.
Session save path does not exist or is not writable (session.save_path). Singapore will function but you may not be able to use the admin interface.
Transparent session id support disabled (use_trans_sid). Singapore will function but will require cookies for the admin interface to function.
File uploading enabled.
Upload temp directory seems to be correctly specified.
Remote file handling enabled.
Testing for config file

Config file found.
Testing for GD

Found GD: Version bundled (2.0.28 compatible) .
Testing for ImageMagick

Found ImageMagick at mogrify: /usr/bin/mogrify /usr/share/man/man1/mogrify.1.gz.
To take advantage of ImageMagick change the thumbnail_software option in singapore.ini to "im".
Oops!

Thanks for any help.

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

You only need to insert DC's code-snippet into admin.class.php. You must make sure that you have created a folder tmp in the singapore-directory. This folder must be world-writable (chomd 0777).

You can create galleries, by uploading folders, containing images into the galleries-folder of singapore.

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

I do have the tmp directory, and it is chmodded to 777. Still not working though.

Any other things I can try?

Glad that worked as for images did you ftp them? Have you re-indexed your galeries?

You might try that.

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Thumbnails are showing up now, still having the trouble with the admin login though.

How would I re-index galleries?

Thanks for reply!

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

Have you made sure that you have cookies enabled in your browser ...

In the admin is the simplest way you just click on the re_index link for that gal ...

You said the thumbs are showing now but still having admin problems does it let you login at all or do you login and then get tossed?

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

I'm accepting cookies.

I try to log in to the admin area with the default admin user and password - it seems to accept it, but when I click any links, for example to change password, or really any of those links, it pops me right back to the login screen.

Puzzling and frsutrating ;-)

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

I have the same problem during the installation:

Safe mode disabled.
Session save path does not exist or is not writable (session.save_path). Singapore will function but you may not be able to use the admin interface.
Transparent session id support disabled (use_trans_sid). Singapore will function but will require cookies for the admin interface to function.
File uploading enabled.
Upload temp directory seems to be correctly specified.
Remote file handling enabled.

And one more:
ImageMagick not found but that doesn't mean it's not there. If it really is not available you may be able to install it yourself (even without shell access to the server).

By the way - where to read about this ImageMagick and where to get it to install?

Any help will be very appreciated!

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

1) You don't need ImageMagick, if you have GD installed.
2) Did you try to login as an administrator? Did it work?

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

1) I see, ok
2) Yes, I`m log in as admin.

Interesting situation: I`ve got all that warnings, but I`ve finished installation - and everything is work as it should. At least, at first glance smile So, I`ll try to fill up my galleries and check everything...

Thank you anyway!

Re: install problem - save path does not exist

The situation is that we sometimes cannot access these properties from the script-side (smart hosting company), however they give a good clue for the reason of failure if something fails (not as smart hosting company)
